“Marcia” was a 33 year-old mother of two who knew deep down that she was meant to have a third child. She and her husband had been trying for almost two years and hadn’t had any luck conceiving number three.
Couples often have a harder time getting pregnant the third time. It’s actually very common. I’m sure there are a variety of reasons why this could be, but 90% of the time it’s the simple fact that having two kids already is so much work that there’s not a lot of bodily resources left at the end of the day!
Marcia insisted on using only acupuncture (no herbs- I can’t remember exactly why).
I used strategic points to help her nervous system reset from the frazzling demands of motherhood, and also directed the treatment towards releasing physical tension and simultaneously rebuilding the body’s reserves, which had been taxed by the two previous pregnancies and copious breastfeeding.
We got extremely lucky with her case. Her next period never came, and she was pregnant within the month.
I should point out that typically fertility cases require at least three months of “prepping the soil.”
In my opinion she responded to treatment so quickly because all that was holding her back was a bit of tension and depletion.
I treated her throughout the rest of her pregnancy, to help secure the womb in the first trimester, and later to manage her “Godzilla-like heartburn.” As her due date got closer we used acupuncture to relieve her low back and sacral pain, and prep her for the big day.
She named her little boy “Renard,” which I’m told means “little fox” in French.
